This wide autumn panorama looks across the steep, vertically eroded walls of Black Canyon of the Gunnison from Gunnison Point on Colorado’s South Rim. Reddish rock spires, evergreen trees, distant plateaus and a deeply shadowed gorge create strong geological depth and light contrast.

The panorama captures the rugged canyon walls, narrow rock spires and shadowed gorge of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Reddish-brown and gray cliffs rise above evergreen trees and foreground rocks, while an elevated plateau and rounded mountain ridges extend across the background. The photograph was captured on October 2, 2010, at a viewpoint on Oak Flat Loop Trail in Montrose County, Colorado.
