A large reddish sandstone arch dominates this vertical landscape photograph on the Delicate Arch Trail in Arches National Park. The open arch frames distant mesas, layered canyon terrain, scattered shrubs and a softly clouded autumn sky near Moab, Utah.
Story
Captured on 11 October 2012, the photograph uses a close, low-angle perspective beneath Delicate Arch. Reddish-brown sandstone walls and a rounded rock foreground frame the broad landscape beyond, including distant mesas, layered canyon terrain and sparse low shrubs. Soft daylight filters through thin cloud, revealing muted rust, ochre, tan, gray and green tones. The image is located in Arches National Park in Grand County, Utah, near Moab.
