Description
An expansive red-rock canyon and plateau landscape stretches across the arid terrain from an elevated viewpoint in Canyonlands National Park. Sandstone slabs, desert shrubs, layered mesas and distant ridges appear beneath a heavily clouded autumn sky.
Story
Captured on 5 October 2010, the image looks across the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park from an elevated viewpoint. The foreground includes rounded red sandstone slabs, scattered stones and low desert vegetation, while deeply eroded canyon walls, mesas and plateaus extend toward the horizon. Thick charcoal, lavender-gray and white clouds fill much of the sky, creating soft, subdued daylight and a strong sense of scale. The panoramic format is well suited to travel features, landscape collections, editorial layouts and outdoor storytelling.
