Description
A wide summer panorama from the high-altitude Gornergrat–Hohtälli ridge above Zermatt, Switzerland. A stone mountain building with two domed observatory structures stands before snow-covered peaks, glaciers, rocky slopes and deep alpine valleys, with a small dark lake visible at lower right.
Story
Captured on 13 August 2009, the image looks across the rugged mountain landscape from approximately 3,132 metres on the Gornergrat–Hohtälli ridge. The foreground includes a multi-story stone building with two domed observatory structures, while the background extends across snow-covered peaks, glaciers, rocky slopes and deep valleys. A small dark lake, wooden structure and stone wall add detail to the lower foreground. Low-angle summer light creates warm highlights on selected mountain faces and cool shadows across the slopes.
